The ladies were in festive sprit too, knowing the battle for 3rd position on the leader board was getting interesting with Blueharts 5s a point ahead.
Blueharts were eager and well organised with an accompanying coach. Both teams started off with a blast of energy and the fight for the first goal of the game commenced. Within the first 5 minutes centre forward Case Eames suffered a clash of the hand resulting in a broken finger, and was subbed by Tori Jeffs. We knew the match was going to be physical at that point.
Potters Bar switched the ball across the pitch with great effort, and after 10 minutes, Clare O’Sullivan pushed the ball up the left where Chris Field snatched another goal from a Tori Jeffs' assist.
Blueharts are a strong team and this quick goal by Bar helped the battle commence. Blueharts came back fighting and equalised just before half time.
Neither teams held back in the second half - there were many fouls. Blueharts charged their way into our defence and gave us a good fight. Blueharts won 5 short corners dominating our defensive 3rd. But Bar’s defence thwarted any gain for the opposition. Frustratingly for Blueharts they continued to push and had two goals disallowed - the first because the shot came from outside of the D, and the second was disallowed as the goal was scored after the whistle had been blown.
1-1 was the score after the final whistle.
Potters Bar ladies 2s earned a really important point at home which reflects on our team’s shear tenacity and defiance against a strong and well organised opposition. Our keeper Roísín was on fire in goal today - she dived, leaped, and saved some blinding efforts! With no doubt our Woman of the match was Roísín!
Well done team!
