Sunday night saw the Bar Army meet via a zoom call to celebrate the 2019/20 season that was unfortunately ended early due to the coronavirus outbreak. Josh Hutchinson scooped 3 awards on the day, which was a fair reward for his contribution to the team this season.

Adam Waller opened the presentation by delivering a message about the current situation at the club, telling everyone that “We need to concentrate on people’s health rather than the football”. He also said that it was due to the work of the people behind the scenes at the club that we are in a strong position for next season.

The first award of the day was the ‘Goal of the Season’ award, which was much debated between the Bar Army, who struggled to decide between Cole’s thunderbolt against Wingate, Ward-Cochrane’s opener versus Barnet and the eventual winner, Marvin Morgan’s solo goal against Worthing. The goal itself saw Morgan take on the entire Worthing side and slot the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

The next award was given by the Norwegian Fan Club, as we introduced the ‘Moment of the Season’ award. This was given to Andy Lomas for his involvement in our last gasp equaliser against Barnet that saw us go to a replay at the Hive, sparking incredible scenes on and off the pitch.

The ‘Supporters’ Player of the Season’ award followed, which was given to pacey winger Ben-Ward Cochrane. Some of his memorable matches from the season included opening the scoring at The Hive and his brace against Hornchurch in a 2-1 home win at the Pakex.

Before the next set of awards were announced, our chairman Peter Waller gave a speech about the successes of the last season. He also gave thanks to the Bar Army for their support this season, as he told fans that, “The club couldn’t run without you”.

The first of the awards given by the Chairman was the ‘Clubman of the Year’ award, which he gave to the Scholars’ boss Lee O’Leary for his efforts during the season.

The ‘Young Player of the Year’ award followed, which was given to Keagan Cole, who not was not only very impressive this season, but also a regular starter. Keagan amassed a huge 42 appearances in the season out of a possible 43 games.

The ‘Golden Boot’ was then given to the top goal scorer for O’Leary’s side this term, Josh Hutchinson. He netted on an impressive 19 occasions this season, making him a huge asset to the side.

Bar’s manager Lee O’Leary then gave a speech, as he also voiced his appreciation for the supporters and hailed their dedication to the club this season, as he claimed, “To all the fans, the ones that are there week in week out, the club appreciates you”. He then gave his verdict on the ‘Manager’s Player of the Season’ award, giving Hutchinson his second award of the night.

He soon had his third, when it was announced shortly after that the ‘Player’s Player of the Season’ had also been given to the striker.

Adam then closed the speech by expressing his belief in the club for the future, saying that he believed that the club could push on and improve on last season’s 13th place finish.

We would like to thank supporters for their continued support towards the club this season and we hope to see you again next year.
