Potters Bar Town 0-0 Colchester United: Bar keep clean sheet in good test

Potters Bar played out a goalless draw against Colchester United at the Lantern Stadium.

The main chances of the game went the way of Dejon Noel-Williams, who saw his saved and an opening from close range put wide.

It was a close match in which there were very few great chances, as both defences held firm in the Saturday afternoon encounter.

Joe Boachie managed to make a driving run into the box, but he was closed down before he could shoot.

Quentin Monville tried to shoot and saw his effort blocked, but the deflection nearly fell to Dejon Noel-Williams who could not quite get a shot away.

Boachie hit the side netting from range seconds later. The Scholars had gotten off to strong start in the contest.

Calvin Dickson had a shot from range, which Jamie Crossart palmed behind for a corner.

There were shouts for a penalty which were waved away when Noel-Williams went down in the box.

Harry Beadle was on hand to make a strong challenge to deny Corey Parchment who found himself in space.

Noel-Williams managed to get on the end of a cross but could not find an angle to shoot, meaning the chance was lost.

A triallist had a go from range for the visitors but it went high and wide of the mark.

Bar had a penalty in the 35th minute when Boachie was brought down in the box.

It was Noel-Williams who stepped up to take it, but Crossart produced a good stop to keep the game goalless.

Al-Min Kazeem had an opportunity to get a goal against the run of play when he hit the side netting on the half volley.

Noel-Williams was denied once again when he was played in by Monville, but his drilled effort was saved once again.

It was goalless at the break despite a strong half from The Scholars.

Noel-Williams’ penalty had been the best opening for the hosts, but there was nothing to separate the sides at half time.

Parchment whipped the ball across goal at the start of the second half and nearly found the far post, but it went just wide.

Jacques Kpohomouh’s header at the back post went just over the bar.

As the game approached the hour mark Boachie had a go from the edge of the area, but the keeper was equal to it once again.

A triallist made a good run for Colchester, but the cross was cleared behind for a corner which came to nothing.

Noel-Williams had a great chance to open the scoring from close range.

The ball hit the bar and fell to the number nine who was unmarked, but he missed the target.

The visitors flashed the ball across the box soon after, which Cracknell met, but his effort was blocked.

A triallist made a good run at goal to beat Frazer Shaw, but the cross was eventually cleared.

The Scholar’s substitute keeper was forced into action straight away off the bench to deny Jake Hutchinson after a defensive error gave him possession.

The number 11 had another opportunity soon after, but his attempt to lob the keeper went well over the bar.

A Scholars triallist nearly had the perfect introduction, as he managed to flick the ball goalwards in the final stages of the game.

It was a smart stop from the keeper that was needed to keep the effort out.

Full time saw the game end a goalless draw, in a good workout for both sides, as Bar had managed to keep a clean sheet and hold their own against a solid Colchester side.
