WOW WOW WOW, crowing rights for Stortford lovelies

Simply WOW WOW WOW by the Scholars who went into another gear this week, brushing aside a very good Bishops Stortford team, and really did put them in their place for their slight arrogance shown in the last game and at the start of this. The Scholars bossed the game from the first minute to last, and was so pleasing for our very own Stortford lovelies who will enjoy their crowing rights.

It all started again with the Scholars hitting the ground running again, going 1nil up within the first few minutes with some delightful football, ending with great control and vision from our man on the match Rahim "Special K", who fed the ball to the advancing Ollie who slammed into the bottom corner. The Scholars were pressing so well and working so hard, and was against the run of play that somehow a speculative long range dipping shot just beat our superstar GK Brad, and in making an extraordinary attempt to save it, injured himself and needed to go off. Without hesitation Josh took the nod to debutise and he was brilliant throughout in all that he did - thanks Josh, you really did well.

We should also not forget the great defending, once again marshalled superbly by the marvellous golden Matthew Goldwater who did not put a foot wrong‎, and had great support in the resolute brut strength of both Charlie Baker and Alban, and the tenacity of Charlie Philippou and Archie who were magnificent - all 5 putting their bodies in front of everything and making tackle after tackle to frustrate BS.

In front of them was our very own "Claude Makélélé", aka Captain "Nathan Charles" who just picked off everything between defence and midfield, and again was an unsung hero playing at the top of his game‎, making endless interceptions, smart tackles and creating attacking opportunities for others. He was selfless and lead by example. He too had great support in a super midfield effort of Lewis Potter and Kyle Williams who worked tirelessly and were simply non-stop. Also both Charlie P and Archie did well in there too, but it was our roaring dragon Harry Edwards who played well throughout and played the pass of the game, threading the ball to Jack who took it in his stride at full speed and side footed ball home for 2-1. Jack kept up his high consistent performance throughout the game, just as he has been doing for numerous weeks - he was frightening at times with his pure grit, speed and power.

‎To reiterate the Scholars pressed and hassled BS throughout the whole game, and our third goal was a great example by Rahim who just kept on going and going, won the ball and then taken straight out for a penalty, which he brushed himself off and smashed into the roof of the net for 3-1. He then continued in the same vein in the second half, with his endless running and availability for others, and just a nightmare for their centre half who he made look ordinary. He was rewarded by his all effort, with scoring two further goals for his hat-trick - his second was "sweaty" which we know he loves scoring and then a curling fizzler in the top corner. A well deserving man of the match – his work rate, control, touch and finishing was from another planet. Sandwiched between his goals was a unlucky deflection past Josh.

So with it at 5-2, the Scholars were home and dry, however, they just kept on at it and with the game in the last 5 minutes, a free kick was awarded approx 25 yards out. Coach Charles called over for Ollie to take it, and all thought it was going to be another quality delivery, however, he looked across, smiled, and fooled everyone with a ferocious low arrowed "Lambo-blaster" to make it 6-2. It should have a 4th for Rahim to make it 7-2‎, but the ref took pity and went with woeful lino decision.

It was so pleasing to see that whomever the Scholars have playing, they really do play as a team, for each other, their loyal fans/parents and their adoring coaches. The ref also played his part with 10/10 who was on par with the best reffing we've had and I think some of our female fans gave a 10/10 for other reasons (Alison / Tracy K were judging!). Thanks again for all the great support, our lovelies from BS providing the refreshments, ‎and a great lino in Glen Poulter.

‎Well done again to the Scholars who are going from strength to strength, and just getting better and better.‎ THANK YOU.
