STOTFOLD 1 POTTON UNITED 0

For this Spartan South Midlands League Challenge Trophy Second Round at Stotfold, Manager Laurence Revell was forced into making changes as three were cup tied from the previous. Then to make matters worse leading scorer Nzembela limped off with a leg injury on 30 minutes and at half-time Wilson had to be replaced due to a leg injury. However on the night Stotfold did just enough to progress through to the next round.

Potton started brightly enough with a shot from Reed that was saved by the keeper. Then Goodman and Nzembela combined well to earn a corner. Goodman and Willis both had effortswide of the target. Stotfold were coming more into it with Ngwala firing over and then a low centre from Croucher was turned over his own bar by Wilson-Braithwaite. Ryan had a free kick for Stotfold that went wide, before Buchanan saw his shot saved by Bull and then Ngwala fired over. Nzembela was in an offside position when he was tackled and had to be substituted. Potton failed to clear their lines allowing first Ngwala and then Buchanan to have shots on goal.

At the other end a centre come shot from Andrews hit the top of the cross bar with the keeper well beaten and then Andrews saw his free kick saved by the keeper. The half ended with neither team threatening a goal. HT 0-0

The second half opened with Forsyth shooting wide and at the other end Goodman found Mullings in an open space but the ball bobbles and his effort went well wide of the goal. A mistake by Wilson-Braithwaite allowed Buchanan in but he was unable to capitalise on the chance. Mordegan had a shot from long range that went over the bar. In the 70th minute a centre from Ryan was not cleared by the Potton defence and the ball fell to Buchanan who mad no mistake from close distance to give Stotfold the lead. Robertson then saw his effort well saved by Bull in tipping it over the cross bar. 10 minutes from time Potton had a golden opportunity to equalise when the ball was played to Reed who beat the central defender and saw his effort well blocked by keeper Gooch. A corner for Potton was headed back across the goal by Rachi and Stotfold managed to clear the ball and after that there were no further chances for either team so Stotfold go into the hat for the draw for the next round. FT 1-0

Potton United: Dean Bull, Delsin Ackom, Callum Wilson (Nathan Mullings), Dequane Wilson-Braithwaite, Paul Andrews, Sam Willis, Theo Reed (Albert Rachi), Rafa Goodman, Neville Nzembela (Niall Jones), Tashriq Andrews, Jordan Slama.
Next Saturday, the 2nd November the First Team are without a match. Their next action is on Saturday 9 November when they entertain Wembley at The Hutchinson Hollow. Hopefully this will give time for the injuries to clear up and the Manager will have a full squad to select from.
