POTTON UNITED 5 EYNESBURY ROVERS 1

Potton progressed to the next round of the Dudley Latham Cup, for SSML Premier Division Clubs, with a convincing and deserved victory over near neighbours Eynesbury Rovers. After their FA Vase success at the weekend Eynesbury included some youth players but in the end it was the running off the ball and clinical finishing of Abraham Eze and George Brinkman that proved decisive.

In the 3rd minute Potton opened the scoring when they won the ball in mid-field and quickly played the ball to Eze who netted from close range. Eynesbury attacked with Brown seeing his low shot stopped by the feet of keeper Irish and then Potton lost the ball in defence and Brown’s weak shot was easily collected by Irish. In the 9th minute Eynesbury equalised when the ball fell to Diejomah who scored with a fierce low shot. Irish sent Eze away and his centre went straight across the goal. Eynesbury then had a spell of pressure with Diejomah having his shot blocked and from the rebound shooting over, Brown shot wide and Daniels mad a good run but shot over. Potton retaliated with Brinkman putting Eze through and although he got the ball past the keeper it was cleared by a defender. At times Potton were slow at the back and poor in the passing allowing Eynesbury to continue to attack with Warwick forcing a save from Irish and Cole seeing his shot saved. In the 41st minute Eynesbury defence was caught copying Potton and a defender gave the ball away to Eze who had a clear run on goal and calmly put it past the keeper. On the stroke of half-time Camara played a through ball to Brinkman who scored to give Potton a 3-1 lead at the interval. HT 3-1

The spectators had barely returned to their seats when in the 47th minute Jordan Goodman played a delightful through ball for Eze to run onto and score goal number four. Six minutes later Eze played the ball through to Brinkman who scored with a good volley. That was four goals in 15 hectic minutes for Potton—and was the highest goals scored in any match this season. Brinkman and Eze were combining well and Eze saw his shot saved. Daniels made another good run for Eynesbury and saw his shot saved by Irish before poor defending by Potton allowed Brown in but his shot was blocked. Williams then saw his shot deflected narrowly over the bar. Substitute Shortt was soon in the action and made a god run only to hit the side netting. Just before the end Ducket shot over the bar. FT 5-1

In the next round Potton are away to Leighton Town and the match is scheduled for 18 February.

Potton United: Sam Irish, Jordan Goodman, Callum Wilson (Niall Jones), Josh Howard-Dobson (Albert Rachi), Dequaine Wilson-Braithwaite, Ieaun Lewis, Tasriq Andrews, Rafe Goodman, George Brinkman, Ibrahim Camara, Abraham Ezr (Callum Shortt)

On Saturday 7 December the First Team travel to Crawley Green and then on Tuesday 10 December there is another cup match when Barton Rovers are the visitors to The Hutchinson Hollow in the Quarter Final of the Bedfordshire Football Association Senior Cup.
