POTTON UNITED 2 EYNESBURY ROVERS 1
Potton progressed to the next stage of the FA Cup as they defeated local rivals Eynesbury
Rovers 2-1 and now entertain Walsham Le Willows from the Eastern Counties League in the
next round on Saturday 21 August. All of the goals coming in the first half hour.
Potton took the lead when Loren Maxwell was put through and saw his shot pushed out by the
keeper only for Chisam Amadi to follow up and put the ball in the net. Potton were attacking
and Maxwell headed wide from a throw in and then he saw his shot well saved by the keeper.
In the 20 th minute Cameron Hyde was booked for a foul on Amadi 25 yards from goal and from
the resulting free kick Callum Wilson beat the keeper to double Potton’s lead. A free kick from
Eynesbury was headed against the angle of the cross bar by James Hatch, with Eynsbury
appealing for a foul which the young official turned down. In the 30thminute Leon Lobjout had
two shots blocked before Hatch put the ball over the line to reduce the arrears. HT 2-1
The first 20 minutes of the second half were played in torrential rain and although Eynesbury
held the upper hand they did not trouble Ryan Schmid in the Potton goal—Lobjout and Hyde
both shooting wide. In the 72nd minute two players came together on the ground and the
referee showed a red (unfairly in Potton’s view) card to Liam Andrews and a yellow card to
Jordan Brown of Eynesbury after the incident. Reduced to 10 men Potton defended and
played extremely well and Eynesbury failed to trouble Schmid in the time remaining. In fact
Potton had the best opportunities with Cole Butler having his shot saved and Maxwell seeing
his shot blocked. After about 4 minutes of added time the referee blew the final whistle. FT
2-1
The match attracted a crowd of 161 who were treated to an entertaining and competitive
match between the two local rivals with Potton performing outstandingly well when they were
reduced to 10 men, with every player giving maximum effort.
Potton United: Ryan Scmid , Cole Butler, Callum Wilson, Luke Pyman, Jack Thomas, Sam
