Another Blank Saturday for Royals
Potton had been beaten by Oxhey by the odd goal in five in September and were hoping for a more positive result in South Hertfordshire.
The Royals gave debuts to Carl Tappin who had signed from Aylesbury and former MK Don’s youth team player Mo Ahmed.
It was another player making his debut but for Oxhey Jets former Tring Athletic forward Kyle Johnson who’s powerful shot on 2 minutes rebounded off the post with Tyler Josephs beaten.
Oxhey then had another chance to take the lead in the very next attack when Sean Giordmania shot wide when well placed.
The game then switched in Potton’s favour when firstly a Danny Webb ball was crossed into the danger area but no one attacked it.
Then in the next minute another Danny Webb cross found Christian Smail who shot just over after 5 minutes.
The rather quick paced start then switched back to Oxhey attacking when Johnson turned James Sage and brought out a smart save from Tyler Josephs.
Potton then produced a move of high quality which started with James Sage passing to Smail who in turn fed Danny Webb. His cross though was put over by Gary Ansell Carter from two yards.
Potton were made to pay for his miss when Oxhey took the lead on 21 minutes.
A poor punch from Tyler Josephs was headed back towards goal and Nick Kerley was quicker to the ball to force the ball over the line.
Oxhey had another chance to extend their lead when this time Kerey had another chance but he hit his shot wide.
Back came Potton when some great work by Aaron Murell found Ansell Carter two yards from goal again but his shot was saved by Evans on 31 minutes.
The Royals had a major let off on 38 minutes after a short pass from Sam Parrish let in Johnson again but he shot wide.
Potton had perhaps their best chance to level on 42 minutes when Mo Ahmed sent over a decent cross which was flicked on by James Sage but the ball could not be forced home from nearly on the goal line by Aaron Murrell.
The first half really had been the story of a lot of matches this season for Potton as they had created plenty of chances but had not converted any of them.
Their hosts though looked dangerous going forward so it looked like there were still goals in this match.
Oxhey again started the half brighter with the ever dangerous Johnson shooting just over on 55 minutes.
Potton though were creating chances with Mo Ahmed passing to Danny Webb. Again he crossed low into the box but no one was at the back post to attack the ball on 65 minutes.
Two minutes later Oxhey could have scored a second when the ball was lost in midfield and Marku steamed forward but Tyler Josephs was equal to it.
Oxhey could have then put the game to bed on 79 but a great double save by Tyler Josephs and then a great goal line clearance from new boy Tappin kept the score at one.
Potton did have chances to level in the last 10 minutes but a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing prevented this.
So another blank Saturday for Potton who huffed and puffed but looked light up front as several dangerous balls were not profited from.
On the plus side the two new signings of Tappin who had a very good game at Right Back and Mo Ahmed who looks like he will give Potton a new dimension to their midfield play, will only be positive in future fixtures.
Potton’s next match is another SSML fixture when they take on local rivals Baldock Town at the Hollow on Saturday.
