Late Drama as Royals Win

A penalty awarded to Potton in the 5th minute of added time settled this entertaining match. Edgware were fast on the break and did not really let Potton settle on the ball. At times Potton played their usual good brand of football but as in previous matches committed fouls in dangerous places and gave the ball away. However another three points in the bag. Potton introduced two new players for this match—Jed Arthur and Loren Maxwell.

Edgware started brightly and a quick break saw Burgess shoot over the bar. McArdle tried to volley a cross from Quigley but his effort was well wide as was a shot from Issa after making a good run. In the 21st minute Edgware had an appeal for a penalty turned down by the referee. In the incident Pett was injured and had to be substituted. Potton then had the ball in the back of the net but this was disallowed for offside. Issa made a good run down the left and his centre eluded any Edgware forwards. Arthur had an effort that went wide of the post and Jones saw his shot saved. Edgware were putting Potton under pressure and in the 40th minute Potton failed to clear the ball that was bobbing about in the goalmouth and a shot rebounded from the cross bar and before any Potton defender could react Page headed home from close range to give Edgware an interval lead. HT 0-1

Maxwell replaced Arthur after the interval. Words must have been said at the half-time team talk on the pitch because Quigley fired over, Camara saw his shot deflected for a corner and from the corner Andrews headed wide. Quigley then had a shot saved before a centre was met by Maxwell at close range to equalise in the 50th minute. Quigley shot at straight at the keeper. In the 57th minute Potton tried to play the ball out of defence and Williams lost it on the edge of the penalty area and Nagheeb took it through to shoot past Irish. Jones blocked an effort from Edgware before Maxwell headed just wide and McArdle shot well over. In the 69th minute the ball fell to McArdle whose deflected shot finished in the back of the net to equalise for Potton. Play continued to be from end to end with Edgware looking dangerous on their quick breaks. For Potton Quigley had a run and shot wide and McArdle headed over from close in. In the 5th minute of added time Pyman made one of his determined runs and was brought down by the keeper in the penalty area. This time the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and McArdle made sure to ensure Potton collected three points. FT 3-2
