POTTON UNITED 1 NEWPORT PAGNELL TOWN 1
A vastly improved performance from last Saturday saw Potton end Newport Pagnell’s 100% league record. In a match played in heavy rain both teams provided good entertainment for the crowd of 102 and Potton thoroughly deserved a point.
Potton got off to the worst possible start after conceding a corner the ball went to Stronge on the corner of the penalty area and his shot flew into the net to give Newport the lead in the 2nd minute. Dowridge headed over from a corner and Willis saw his shot saved by the keeper. Pagnell had the ball in the net but was ruled offside. Play was fairly even for the rest of the half with Potton shooting more frequently than they did on Saturday. HT 0-1
The start of the second half saw Potton equalise in the 48th minute when Willis made a strong run and from his pass Dowridge shot home. Potton tended to dominate the play with Pyman making a strong run and his shot was deflected over the bar and Dowridge shot wide of the post. Lorren headed over before Sylvester shot wide and Lorren had a header cleared off the line. Pyman made a determined run and his low shot was blocked by the keepers feet. Newport were looking dangerous on the breaks and a dangerous centre from Barnes eluded everyone and then his shot hit the cross bar. At the other end a low shot from Willis hit the post. In the 3rd minute of added time Newport had the ball in the net but on the decision of the assistant referee a Newport player was adjudged to have interfered with play and the goal was disallowed. A minute later the referee blew the final whistle. FT 1-1
