Saturday 7th September 2019 & our 1st league game in the Halbro leagues was a local derby against Wallasey. Prior to KO a minutes silence was held to remember our absent friends Stuart Hill, Simon Atkinson & big Moose (Billy Roe). With the sun out & plenty of supporters watching our team was egar to get the game going under the guidance of our new club player/coach Rich Barclay. Wallasey looked a much bigger side but Prenton entered the game full of confidence & it didnt take long before MTH danced through the Wallasey back line from the halfway line & under the posts for the opening try. Soon after our big outside centre Anthony went over unopposed after a good set piece & passing along the line, with MTH slotting both conversions Prenton had got off to the perfect start & running at a point a minute. More pressure from Prenton led to scrum half Phil Tolladay diving over from short range after some great forward work. It was about 30 mins before Wallasey got anywhere near the Prenton 22 & that was after a couple of penalties for the visitors. Even so Prenton where soon in control of the ball & the backs away gain & centre Gino King having the speed to outstrip the covering defence & up the wing & over the try line. Before the half finished there was still time for another 22 break out from MTH & then onto the backs & it was MTH who finished the play off going over for his 2nd score of the day. With MTH also having a good day with the boot the half finished 33-0 to Prenton.
The 2nd half was much the same & although Prenton had the smaller pack often pushed the bigger Wallasey pack back at scrum time & also disrupted their line out were as the Prenton scrum & lineouts produce clean quality ball for our backs. It was Knappo who got the 1st score of the 2nd period busting over from short range after Prenton pack winning a scrum ball. Although the 2nd half got a bit scrappy with Wallasey disrupting Prenton ball as much as possible Prenton's backs still running in more scores via Gino for a brace, big Joe Ozcan & try of the match from Jordan Ainslie. The last try was one off the training ground with a lineout on 1 side of the pitch & passed along the back line for the fullback to score in the corner on the opposite side. So the game finished Prenton 57-0 Wallasey.
Great game to watch & am sure to play in, this game shows the benefits when you get a group of players willing to train, learn & develop together. Keep it up boys & more good days & games to come. The day finished off with a happy club house full of players, ex players, friends WAGS & kids enjoying a beer (not the kids) & the day together, Perfect!
