Match Report Birchfield 1st XV vs Prenton 1st XV

Last week was a tough week for the captains with various lads unavailable due to other commitments and being unable to travel to Widnes. However as it was 16 men of Prenton made the trip to take on Birchfield. While the early exchanges were very evenly matched Birchfield quickly unleashed what proved to be a potent back line running in a couple of tries. The Prenton pack dusted themselves down and began to play to the game plan that has been coached and enjoyed both posession and continuity for the remainder of the half.
The second half started as the first ended and the game became a stalemate. Unfortunately, both fatigue and injuries (Notably Steve Smith - fractured leg) allowed Birchfield the space to utilise their backs and accelerate away towards full time. Final score 41-0 L.
Huge thanks to the lads from the lower teams who stepped into the breach to make the game competitive, with 1st XV debuts for Mark Burley and Sam Singleton.
