It is with sincere regret that Prescot Cables have taken the difficult decision to forfeit this evenings Liverpool County FA Senior Cup 2nd Round tie against Lower Breck FC.
Our withdrawal from this fixture comes following dialogue with Liverpool County Football Association regarding multiple injuries in our Goalkeeping department. Unfortunately Calvin Hare suffered an injury to his arm in last Tuesday's game at Lancaster City and whilst he was able to play in Saturday's match at Bamber Bridge, he is having an X-Ray to determine the extent of his injury and is unavailable for tonight's game. Our GK Coach, Ryan McMahon, who also acts as our back up Goalkeeper, has recently had surgery.
Steven Daley and his coaches have successfully identified and agreed an emergency loan for a Goalkeeper from an EFL League Two side, who would have travelled to Merseyside and participated in this evenings game. However competition rules set by the County FA dictate that as this is a rescheduled fixture following an earlier postponement on 17th November; only players that were registered with the club on the date of the original game are eligible to participate.
Liverpool County Football Association have rejected our request for dispensation to register this emergency loan signing which would allow us to fulfill tonight's game against Lower Breck, and we now face the frankly farcical prospect of playing this game without a Goalkeeper.
We do not feel that it is justifiable that supporters of either side would be asked to pay an entry fee to watch such a spectacle, nor is it worth the risk of further injury to any other players in such circumstances.
Therefore we have decided that we have no alternative but to forfeit the game and end our participation in this seasons Liverpool County FA Senior Cup.
We sincerely apologise to our supporters, as well as our opponents Lower Breck FC and their supporters who were intending on visiting The Auto Safety Centre Stadium this evening and wish them well in the next round of the competition.
