It was the visitors who took home a deserved 3 points courtesy of goals from Martin and Donaghy.

It was the hosts who saw the better of the chances in the early stages, Goodwin flashing a ball across the goalmouth, which was deflected  and dealt with by the Hebburn back-line,  moments before Cameron spilled a looping ball towards the stride of Elliott, who followed in with an effort which was denied by Hebburn’s number 1 who redeemed himself; prior to denying a Steele header.

The away side took the lead through Gary Martin, perhaps against the run of play, as an error from Doyle turned away possession and Hebburn’s number 9 found the net from around 20 yards out. Looking to double his sides’ advantage, Briggs hit a low effort on the stroke of half-time, but it was denied with a low block on the line from Cables captain Hollett.

The afternoon was wrapped up with a quarter-of-an-hour left to play; Darcy earning his side a corner following a run from his own half – which was then dispatched as Donaghy met Briggs’ delivery to power home and secure 3 points for his side, tarnishing any hopes of a late turnaround for the hosts.
