G&PHC men’s 3 travelled to Crewe Vagrants 3 for an early autumn fixture that promised well, given the newly promoted side’s form in the opening weeks. However the away team’s optimism was quickly dashed with some consistently excellent attacking hockey from Crewe. Up against a forward line who wouldn’t look out of place several divisions higher (Crewe might want to strengthen their higher teams from this contingent) G&PHC conceded regularly to go into half time down by six goals.
The second half, to G&PHC’s credit, was a really solid performance. Defensively sound, and with some opportunities continuing to come on the break, however couldn’t break through Crewe’s defensive line. Final score 8-0
