Cut Out

Another Tough game this week in Watford where the rain caused us to reduce the game to 30 overs a side. We loss the toss and were reluctantly put into bat on a wet pitch. Punit was out in the first over without troubling the scorer playing a nice cut shot but straight to the fielder. Gaurav didn’t hang around much longer and after hitting a boundary was out bowled. Sandeep was looking good and hit 2 boundaries before playing the cut shot and was out caught in the gully. Biren was trapped LBW on the back foot by their spinner. Tushar played a cut shot and was just like Sandeep and Punit caught in the same area. Hitesh and I looked to consolidate and try to post a respectable score. Hitesh hit a big 6 which did some serious damage to one of the opponents cars. (probably the only mark we left during this game), he was out bowled soon after by one that creeped under the bat. Vasa was in next and we both were feeling comfortable playing sensibly and picking up the singles. We felt that if we could bat the innings we could post 120 but my eyes lit up when they bowled a rare short wide ball which I meddled straight to……yes you guessed it, their fielder at point. Forhad & Junior only lasted a few balls before they were bowled without scoring and MP3 must have had a rus of blood as he tried to hit a big shot leaving Vasa stranded not out at the other end. We were all out for 80 with 4 batsman getting a duck and only 3 batsman getting into double figures.

The opposition bowled well and seemed to have a plan of bowling right arm round to our right handers forcing them to play into their trap of playing the cut shot which 4 of our batsmen did!.....

We opened the bowling with Hitesh and MP3 because we knew our only chance of winning was to take early wickets. MP3 got one early clean bowling their opener but they batted sensibly thereafter and made sure that’s all he was going to have. Vasa picked up the only other wicket with a ball that was going down leg that the batsman somehow played back onto his stumps.

We lost by 8 wickets and again the batting let us down……On a positive note the only way is up and I have a feeling there is a big score around the corner from one of our batsmen!
