Last Wicket stand

PPCC arrived to Northwick park on an overcast afternoon and put Northfields in to bat. After researching their current season form we were aware that they are capable of scoring big scores with 5 batsman averaging over 40 so taking the field with 9 men was a daunting task. Thankfully Northfields provided us with a fielder for the first 10 overs.

Kunal and Junior opened the bowling and kept it very tight with Junior using his slower ball cutter to pick up 4 prize wickets in his 8 over spell! Kunal plugged away at the other end and was unlucky to finish wicket less but only went for 21 runs in his 8 over spell. Hitesh and Vasa came on to try and take wickets and restrict Northfields score but they likes the extra pace on the ball. One of their openers played a very good knock and reached a well-deserved half century. MP4 after arriving 20 overs into the game was brought on and immediately troubles the batsmen, he picked up 5 wickets in if 5.4 overs with some good catching in the field. Northfields finished on 145 all out in the 37th over. This was the highest score we had seen posted at Northwick park so we knew we had a tough task.

Punit and Gaurav opened the batting but their opening bowlers were swinging it all over the place and making scoring almost impossible. Punit departed early with a good catch in the slips followed by Sandeep trapped LBW in the same over. I joined Gaurav in the middle and with it being a 40 over game we decided to play it safe and see out the openers. Gaurav played a sensible innings but was eventually bowled out for 11. Harish saw off a few overs and did a good job but a good throw from the deep to run him out was unfortunately to quick for him. Sabs was in next and with the openers finally finishing their spells we were able to start to try and score some runs off the lesser bowlers. I played across the line and was out LBW but with the run rate up to 4.5 an over Hitesh was the right man to come in. The running was poor on the day and Sabs was the second man to be run out but in next was Vasa. Hitesh was swinging hard and raced to 20 but a very good catch on the boundary brought his inning to an end. We required 30 odd at around 5 an over and with Vasa there we felt we had a good chance of winning however he ran himself out trying to run a bye.

Kunal marched to the crease to join Junior and oozed confidence from the first ball he faced. He was very good at picking up cheeky singles by playing a bit of hit and run and pulling anything short. It was down to 20 off 4 and Junior was out bowled. In came MP3 and immediately adapted to the situation picking up quick singles. Kunal Bhatt hit a couple of big boundaries and brought it to the last over where we needed 4 runs and kunal went for a big shot and was dropped on the boundary+ a very close LBW shout!...Nail biting time! It came down to the last ball, 2 to win off one ball and they bowled a wide!.....One to win and they ran a bye which the keeper fumbled giving us victory!!...Kunal Bhatt finished on 18 and MP3 on 9. What a victory and entertaining game! Well done to Kunal Bhatt, MP3 and Junior for your contributions!
