P&S continue to show class with 3 victories out of 4

Friday saw the final leg of what has been a fully enjoyable Northumberland 7s circuit, kindly hosted by Morpeth Rugby Club. This week saw five sides enter the competition, with Alnwick and Ryton joining regulars ourselves, Novocastrians and Blyth.

A strong squad of 11 made the trip with a 7s debut for Adam Murphy, showing that even props like a wide open game!

First game saw P&S face a strong Alnwick side containing many first team and county level players. Despite the 4 league difference between the sides, P&S put up a fantastic effort, asking many questions of an Alnwick defence who often relied on a last ditch tackles to prevent a score. Ultimately, their class, showed and a full time score of 24-5 was no disgrace to a spirited P&S squad.

Moving straight across to the second pitch, familiar 7s opponents Novos provided the opposition. Again a competitive match ensued, with the scoreboard ticking over on a regular basis. P&S scored some fantastic tries which often included offloads in contact or fancy footwork resulting in a 26-22 victory.

Fresh from a welcomed break Blyth were next up were P&S completely dominated from the first whistle to win comprehensively. Yannick Debil showed great strength to power through whilst the backline played with pace and confidence to score 6 tries. Full time 32-12.

Final match of the evening saw P&S play a feisty Ryton side who had impressed during the evening with their mix a flair and pace. However, a determined P&S squad matched their DN2 counterparts, with some ferocious defence and classy attacking play. At half time the game was in the balance with Ryton leading 15-14 but a second half performance that epitomised P&S saw the squad score 3 unanswered tries to claim a brilliant 29-15 win.

That victory brought the end to what has been a really good 3 weeks of rugby. The opportunity to play clubs that we dont get the chance to play has been welcomed and the ability the squad has shown to compete against some players from much higher leagues has been really encouraging.
