Its been a difficult last 2 days thinking how I was going to go about writing this match report and after speaking with Kelly Russell today, his advice....being sometimes less is best, but I'm still not convinced.
Since I've been involved with the club Saturday's 25-10 loss to Parkhouse RFC was definitely our worst 80 minutes of rugby we have played.
Parkhouse fully deserved the win dominating the set pieces, the breakdown and tackle, scoring 3 tries to one in the process.
It wasn't the best of preparations as both the M23 and the A24 were closed so getting to the ground was a challenge in itself. No excuse and I take full responsibility for the warmup not being its best as some players were unfortunately late in arriving and I have already spoken with Harrison Short and preparation for our next outing we'll be much improved.
We just did not dominate any aspect of the game. Pulborough are a very good side and all very good players across the park but if you do not dominate....whether that be your opposite number, the breakdown, set pieces and the tackle you will lose games to any side in this league. If you speak with any coach at a national level in regards to a player being recruited to a club, they don't ask, is he any good, they ask if he dominates.
Anyway not quite less is best!
We have a 2 week break and back at home for a VPs lunch day on the 21st March, so a big crowd will be there to support the boys which I know they are keen on putting on a much improved performance against Vigo RFC.
