In a tense encounter at Blues' home ground, Imogen Sarre proved why she has been Putney's top goal-scorer to date by getting Putney off to a perfect start, ably assisted by captain Rusty Cashman and Lizzie Crouch in attack, despite the goalie's best efforts to dismember Crouch's ankle.
Surviving some rather unsteady ground, that led to tumbles during substitutions, Putney showed determination on the ground balls against an experienced Blues side, who kept their noses in the match all the way through.
Sarah Gospel and Brigit Parry were invaluable in defence, Georgie Boardman and Georgia Bacon showed the opposition the meaning of 'double-team,' and Isabel van der Linden gave no quarter, ending up with a goal and even two black eyes for her efforts.
Alex Carnegie Brown, an integral addition to the Putney side this year, had another excellent game, sending the ball beyond the halfway line to captain Cashman during a well-orchestrated goal clear.
With some possession play at the end, Putney survived to win by the narrowest of margins.
Congratulations to all who took part.
