Avonvale 1sts 3 – 0 Quedgeley Res Scorer 25’, 40’, 70’

Quedgeley battled well away at Avonvale, but had little reward as the team top of the league took all three points.

The game started with promise as both teams tried to pass the ball however Avonvale had the better of the possession. But neither team created any decent chances and Quedgeley seemed content to let Avonvale have the ball without threatening the Quedgeley goal. However midway through the first half a defensive mix up lead to the Avonvale striker tapping home to give the away side the lead. And the game plan changed as Quedgeley had to try and score a goal and push forward.

Quedgeley didn’t create many chances, Pete Bull’s header being saved on the line being the only real highlight for Wanderers in the first half. Avonvale doubled their lead at the end of the half; the winger left his man and shot from 20 yards out, punishing the wanderers defence as the ball flew into the top right hand corner. The 2 – 0 score line seemed a little harsh as Quedgeley didn’t do much wrong and were very much matching the home team all over the pitch.

The second half was similar to the first and Quedgeley were very much still in the game and moving the ball around like their opponents. But Quedgeley lost possession from their own throw and Avonvale punished them once again to make it 3 – 0. Once again it felt harsh but Avonvale kept making Quedgeley pay for their mistakes.

After the third goal, Avonvale sat back and Quedgeley began to force some pressure. Chris Rigby had a couple of half chances round the back of the Avonvale defence and Scott Edwards looked dangerous with a couple of shots late on. But Avonvale held on to claim the victory and make themselves almost certain champions. We wish them all the best in division 2.
