Quedgeley Res 1 – 1 Didmarton Scorer 65’, LAWES 90’

Quedgeley finished off their first season in division 3 with a draw against runners up Didmarton at home.

The game had a very end of season feel about it as Wanderers could only finish 5th with a win and Didmarton were guaranteed promotion providing they didn’t lose by 5 goals or more.

Both teams cancelled each other out in the first half with little action at either end, both defences were firm to most attacks and the lack of goal mouth action meant the scores were 0 – 0 at half time.

The second half very much stayed the same as neither team gained the upper hand and a stalemate seemed very much on the cards. But Didmarton took the lead midway through the second half, a throw in was not dealt with and some slack marking lead to a Didmarton player having a tap in at the back post.

After the goal the pattern did not change as both teams cancelled each other out in midfield. It looked as if the away side were going to hold on for all three points, But as the final few minutes came Quedgeley pushed for a goal. And James Lawes got the goal with literally the last kick of the season. Scott Moroney’s throw found Lawes’ run from defence and he took a touch before smashing the ball hard and low from 25 yards into the bottom left corner.

A great goal to finish on and a good performance against a team that have gained promotion out of this league, which shows what Quedgeley are capable of doing when they are organised and on form.

A big congratulations to all of the players for the success of this season, our first season in division 3 and we finished 6th, 9 points away from promotion. A great achievement!
