Quedgeley bounced back from the defeat at Abbeymead with a stylish win at home to Chalford, although defensive mistakes almost cost them all three points.
Wanderers started strong and the first half saw the best 45 minutes of football the team has played this season. But every time the home side put a piece of football together, there was a defensive mistake to even it up.
Alex Young gave Wanderers the lead 10 minutes in, his header looping over the goalkeeper from Scott Edwards’ cross. And it seemed to be what they deserved until Chalford equalised 5 minutes later with their first shot of the game from a long ball. But this did not affect Quedgeley’s heads and they continued to get the ball down and keep possession with ease. Dean Hankins had a shot tipped onto the post before he played in Scott Edwards to finish going with the run of play. But Chalford bounced back 2 minutes later as Wanderers lost the ball in their own third and were rightly punished.
The second half continued in the same way as Quedgeley dominated possession and soon put themselves 4 – 2 up. Liam Kay scored a bullet header from Alex Young’s corner and Dean Hankins netted after Wanderers carved open the Chalford midfield stringing numerous passes together.
After this Quedgeley sat back and the game evened itself out, but Chalford scored with 10 minutes to go to make the finish a tense one. However Quedgeley held on the take the points.
A huge thanks to Joe Alps and Tony Farmer for putting the goals up and another thanks to Tony Farmer for refereeing the game.
