After the heights of last week, Quedgeley failed to turn up as they collapsed to a bitterly disappointing 4 – 1 defeat at home to Wotton.
Quedgeley started the game in a positive manor and kept the ball in spells whilst creating half chances. But one counter attack saw the visitors go one nil up from the penalty spot after a handball in the box.
This shocked Wanderers but they tried to play football, but Wotton stayed resilient as the home struggled to create any clear cut chances.
The second half seemed to flow the same with little drama until Quedgeley gave away another penalty after failing to deal with a long throw 10 minutes in. This was scored and Quedgeley collapsed once again. From kick off the home side almost broke into the Wotton area but on the brake Wotton grabbed a third. Quedgeley had no one to blame but themselves as they struggled to get out of first gear.
Pete Bull grabbed a goal back with 25 minutes to go, firing into the top corner from Dean Hankins lay off. And two minutes later Quedgeley won a penalty of their own as Jordan Rouse’ cross was handled on the way through. But Dean Hankins had his penalty saved and this became the turning point in the game. Quedgeley’s heads dropped and Wotton grabbed a fourth to complete a catastrophic day for the home team.
Overall it was a poor, poor performance. But this could be the reality check the team needed going into the second half of the season.
