Quedgeley Res 3 – 1 Barnwood Res HANKINS 35’, LAWES 55’, KNIGHT 85’, Scorer 20’,

Quedgeley came out of this game with all three points against a very youthful Barnwood side.

Quedgeley started the game and had plenty of possession in the first half, with the back four having plenty of the ball and the two full backs making many forwards runs. But Barnwood were always very quick to counter attack with two young, quick forwards and it was the away team who created the first good chance. Winning a penalty after the ball beat everyone with a bounce and the last Quedgeley player brought down the striker inside the box.

But the Barnwood player dragged the penalty wide and the score stayed goalless until another long ball five minutes later beat the back four and this time the striker scored to make it 0 – 1.

Quedgeley still managed to keep the ball, but created little in the final third. Until Quedgeley won a free kick on the edge of the Barnwood box. Dean Hankins took the kick and sent the ball flying into the top right hand corner giving the goalkeeper no chance.

With the scores level both teams were cancelling each other out until Wanderers grabbed a second 10 minutes into the second half. Ethan King played a short free kick to James Lawes on the halfway line, who went on a trademark run past two opponents before unleashing a shot from 30 yards which caught the keeper by surprise as it moved through the air and flew into the net.

Barnwood pressed after the goal, and Quedgeley began to sit back and invite pressure. But Wanderers held firm with little scare and Barnwood had a player sent off for dissent 15 minutes from time. And in the final minutes Scott Edwards won the ball down the right and the ball fell to Kyle Knight 30 yards out who chipped the onrushing goalkeeper to secure the point for Quedgeley.

Overall it was a steady performance from the home side as they look to finish the final ¼ of the season on a high. Three superb goals to pick up three good points.
