Quedgeley Res 1 – 0 Sharpness Res OG 55’,

Quedgeley kept their first clean sheet in the league this season as they battled past their old friends Sharpness at home.

The last time these teams played each other at Waterwells, the game finished 6 – 6 after 90 minutes, this game was a little different as both teams struggled to find form in the final third. Quedgeley had a new shape and a new style to try and the game plan had a great amount of success. Quedgeley created half chances whilst the defence stood firm to Sharpness’ attackers.

The first half was even but Wanderers just shaded it on possession, but neither team created any clear cut chances and Alex McCatty was steady in goal.

The second half was very similar to the first as both mid table teams cancelled each other out, but Wanderers did grab a goal. Chris Rigby did well to get a cross in from the bye line and the Sharpness defender, with little pressure on him, tried to chest the ball back to his goalkeeper. In doing so he got his aim wrong and the ball bounced off his chest and onto the post before creeping over the line. An interesting goal to say the least but a goal that made a huge difference as both teams had little chances after this.

Quedgeley held on and withstood some pressure towards the end but Sharpness failed to create and clear cut chances,

Overall it was a solid defensive performance which Quedgeley have been lacking this season, and hopefully they can keep up the hard work through to the end of the season.
