Quedgeley went to second in the league and came out on top in what was a tough battle away at Cam Bulldogs.
Quedgeley started the game with a lot of possession and moved the ball well creating the better of the chances in the first half. The away team defended well as they kept Cam at bay and looked dangerous in attack winning countless corners early on, but failed to make any of them count. Wanderers did eventually take the lead however and it was nothing short of what they deserved. Scott Moroney’s through ball found Chris Gooch who skipped passed his marker before squaring for Jordan Rouse to place home into the bottom corner.
Cam looked dangerous from set pieces but failed to create any real opportunities and the first half finished with Quedgeley comfortably on top.
The second half began with the same pattern as the first but with little goal mouth action as both teams struggled in the final third. But it was wonderers who doubled their lead midway through the second half. A throw in fell to Jordan Rouse’s feet and his half volley from the edge of the box flew into the side netting to make it 2 – 0.
From here on Cam went for it as they pushed men forward and Wanderers had to withstand some pressure from corners and long throw-ins pumped into the box. But Quedgeley didn’t sit back and tried to score more on the break, and if Chris Gooch was two inches taller he could have had a brace as he came close to numerous crosses put into the box.
Within the final few minutes a free kick was not dealt with and Cam pulled a goal back making it a nervy finish. And after another scramble in the box and Scott Edwards clearing off the line, Quedgeley held on to claim a great win against a team who have only lost one other game all season. A brilliant result and a brilliant performance.
