Wanderers’ cups run finally come to an end in the semi-finals as they lost to unbeaten Huntley at home.

Quedgeley started the game slowly as Huntley seemed up for the trip, and Quedgeley, who had the wind and sun against them in the first half, gave the ball away from defence and Huntley took the lead on the 10 minute mark.

Quedgeley had little joy in the first half as Huntley surrounded the midfield giving the home side little room to play. And Huntley kept creating chances as they powered through the midfield. The away side doubled their lead midway through the first half giving Quedgeley a mountain to climb.

Wanderers did find space down the wings as both Chris Rigby and Chris Gooch looked dangerous, and it was Rigby who got a goal back right before half time. A through ball found the winger in space behind the defence and a last ditch tackle was deemed a foul by both referee and assistant. Rigby took the penalty but the Huntley goalkeeper saved however fortunately for Wanderers it fell back to Rugby to tap into the empty net.

The second half Wanderers were confident of getting back in the game with the wind and sun in their favour, but Huntley’s defence stood firm as Wanderers failed to create any real clear cut chances. And Huntley grabbed a third 10 minute into the second half and this dropped Quedgeley’s heads. They kept pushing forward for a goal but once again Huntley caught them on the counter attach to grab a fourth.

Wanderers had a late spell of possession and chances for the last 25 minutes with numerous corners and crosses but failed to create a real chance on goal, and once again in the final few minutes Huntley punished Quedgeley making the final score 1 – 5.

Overall it was tough ask for Quedgeley against a Huntley side who has only dropped 2 points in their league all season, and possibly the strongest team we have played this year, but Quedgeley can hold their heads high for a great cup run which saw them win one match with 10 players after being 2 – 1 down at half time. And also came from 5 – 1 down to win in the 4th round.

A huge thanks to all the people that turned up to support us, it was a great turn out for the occasion.
