Quedgeley Res 2 – 0 Stonehouse 3rds GROVES 30’, GOOCH 65’,

Quedgeley’s 20th competitive game of the season was a comfortable win at home to Stonehouse in the Charity Cup Quarter Finals.

The game was an even contest early on as both teams settled down; chances were rare for both teams as defences won the battle until Quedgeley conceded a penalty 20 minutes in. However Scott Moroney made a great save in goal giving Quedgeley a lifeline. And they soon began to play football and create chances of their own. Luke Groves hit the post from close range but soon made up for his miss. Finishing into the bottom corner minutes later from Dean Hankins lay off.

With the half time score 1 – 0, the game seemed on a knife edge which could go either way. But Quedgeley came out blazing second half and played some wonderful attacking football. Moving the ball well and creating many chances, Chris Gooch and Dean Hankins both missed good opportunities. But it was Gooch who eventually got the second, finishing smartly in the box after a darting run from Ethan King.

Quedgeley were resilient at the back with James Lawes and Ethan King defending brilliantly. Stonehouse began to tire towards the end and Quedgeley’s rested players looked sharp, more chances came and on another day, the home side could have hit 5 or 6. But it was not to be as the game finished 2 – 0.

Overall it was another good performance although Quedgeley do need to start being more clinical in front of goal. However it is another Quarter final win, and another semi-final to look forward to against Wotton.
