Ramgarhia Slough V Amersham & Chalfont

Ramgarhia Slough struggling with injuries and player shortage they had to start with a make shift team, with a new goalkeeper K G and Mani Birdi (new to hockey). As expected Amersham started the game much the better of the two teams with significant more possession in the opening phase of the game. But for all their possession they failed to have any clear chances at the SRHC goal primarily due to the excellent defence of Apinder Singh and Usmaan Khan. It was a controversial passage of play that gave Ramgarhia Slough the lead against the run of play, with Rocky Thakore sweeping a well passed ball by Papu Athwal into the Amersham goal. Amersham felt that Ramgarhia Slough had committed a foot infringement just prior to the goal. Despite their appeals the Umpire stuck with his decision and awarded Ramgarhia Slough the goal. Amersham increased the tempo of the game and had opportunities to level the score. But once again they were thawed by the Ramgarhia Slough defence. Amersham's flurry of short corners were either well blocked or defended by a disciplined Slough defence.
The second half saw the arrival of the Surjit Pawar and Dev Pawar to bolster the Ramgarhia Slough team. Amersham continued to dominate the play, but Ramgarhia Slough began to created more chances at the other end. A rare Ramgarhia Slough corner was converted by Usmaan Khan exactly as practiced in the warm sessions. Despite being 2 down Amersham continued to press to get back into a game that they felt they deserved to win, but despite more pressure Ramgarhia Slough held on to take all three points. Ramgarhia Slough felt that Amersham had provided the toughest opposition of the season to date and probably felt aggrieved at coming away with nothing. Amersham thanked Ramgarhia Slough HC for some fantastic teas.
