It's back on home soil for Ransomes Sports this weekend (Oct. 23rd) as they play hosts to Haughley United in the Senior Division of the SIL; KO 2.30pm. The most recent meeting between these two sides was back in season 2019/20 when Ransomes Sports were a Junior club, and the two sides met in a Morrison Freight Cup quarter final tie which Haughley eventually won 2-1 having gone behind to an Isaac Keinzley opener for the visitors. Haughley will no doubt be thrilled with a similar outcome on Saturday in this, the two teams first encounter since Ransomes returned to the top flight.
Against Bildeston last weekend, Ransomes showed two sides of their game in coming back twice to eventually earn a point, which now extends their unbeaten run to three games. Injuries are starting to niggle though, and the loss of further players following the Bildeston game is a blow.
Haughley meanwhile, will be buoyed by their biggest win of the season last time out when they defeated Westerfield 7-2, and they will hope to succeed at Sidegate Avenue where the likes of East Bergholt and Ipswich Vale Exiles failed, by toppling the R's at their home ground.
Ransomes were just starting to find their feet with back-to-back wins before the Bildeston game as Haughley present another step up in difficulty, and Ransomes hopes of a fourth successive home win are likely to depend on a defence that has conceded just two goals in their three home games, along with the re-emergence of Tye Webb as a threat up front.
Ransomes will certainly be looking to extend their impressive home form which has brought nine points from three games, but Haughley have a strong commitment to attack with 26 goals scored already this season. This game could have the ingredients for a goal fest.
