Ransomes Sports are once again at home this weekend ( Jan 21st) when they entertain Trimley Red Devils in the SIL Senior Division at Sidegate Avenue with a 2.00 pm KO.
Despite the difference in league placings, there are many similarities between these two sides. The one thing that is for sure, both teams are encouraged by their respective coaches to play football and there is an enormous amount of passion around how the game should be played. There is also a fundamental respect towards the opponent and both teams set a demanding and very high bar around their standards. It makes it very demanding but that does not mean the players are afraid, on the contrary both teams they will be looking forward to it - Trimley in the knowledge that they gained an important win last week, and for Ransomes, it is the opportunity to put behind them that defeat from last week.
There were some obvious flaws and weaknesses that brought about that defeat for Ransomes but hopefully, they will heal themselves by this coming weekend. It is these moments of vulnerability that will encourage any opponent but Ransomes will continue their faith - it is simply time to trust the players.
Trimley Red Devils will possibly see this game as a free hit as they have struggled for consistency this season but, they will also be optimistic that they can add to their points tally and continue the momentum following last weeks win over Westerfield.
They are yet to be the consistant pass-and-move outfit of last season who played for long swathes in the opponents half (which was duly epitomised in their Senior Cup success over Ransomes at Sidegate Avenue last season). Despite the upheavel at the beginning of the season, there have been glimpses however, and the hope must be to gradually morph into a cadre who can once again do this relentlessly.
A tight structured game is anticipated, and Ransomes will be required to show their pedigree and big game panache if they want to get back to winning ways.
