Ransomes Sports head to Benhall St. Mary this weekend (8th April) for a SIL Senior Division match KO 2.30 pm.
Last weekend, a depleted Ransomes were left to rue their defensive fragility on the day against a punchy Halesworth outfit that dealt a massive blow to their hopes of a first league title. There will however, be a few more "twists and tuens" I'm sure, before the season ends.
Ransomes have injured players, and players struggling with "bits and pieces", so somehow they need to rock up with a performance on Saturday, but Benhall appear to present a real problem as they are fighting for every point to avoid the drop back down into Junior football.
They will be encouraged by recent results which include draws against Old Newton (1-1) and Halesworth (2-2) along with a 1-0 win over East Bergholt, a clear sign of their progression since those 12 consecutive defeats at the start of the season. They will now look for that momentum to keep them up as they head into the run-in.
Ransomes meanwhile, will need to get back to being smarter and understand how to deal with the pressure around them without taking those defensive risks that have previously proven costly. If they can cope during a period of turmoil where injuries threaten to derail their own momentum, a return to form would secure a most welcome, and impoertant, win. If Ransomes want to build a winning team, then they need to manage these difficult periods. If they do this at the weekend, then they go into the final month in good shape and still with everything to play for.
Whatever happens, Ransomes certainly have nothing to prove to cement their status as genuine title contenders, and a return to winning ways will do no harm to their growing reputation.
