Friday night football comes to Sidegate Avenue (21st April) when Ransomes Sports entertain Coplestonians in a SIL Senior Division derby match KO 6.30 pm.
It may have been only their fourth draw of the season, but Ransomes misstep at Trimley Red Devils last week presents them with a real psycological challenge. The 2-2 score-line could be rationalised as a setback and they will be bitterly disappointed to have surrendered the lead so late in the game. It will be a tricky assignment for Ransomes against Coplestonians and one they should not take lightly. Coplestonians shortcomings are few and far between when it comes to playing Ransomes.
Ransomes will need to reach for their best firefighting act on Friday to douse any concerns they may have facing an opponent they have yet to beat in the league since their return to Senior football - their only success coming in a Morrison Freight Cup tie last season. In the short term, Ransomes will need to shove that statistic to one side and focus on staying in the title hunt, despite their latest hiccup.
Coplestonians progress appears to have stalled lately after a nine game unbeaten run that took them well into the new year and, despite only one win scattered across their last six outings, we all know that a derby match does not correspond to the form book - Coplestonians will certainly offer Ransomes a stern test of endurance on the night.
If Ransomes are to take anything from the visit of their neighbours, they will need to find a way of shckling Godbold and Linard who, between them, have scored 22 of Coplestonians 31 league goals so far this season.
Overall, this will be a game of cautious confidence from either side. Ransomes will look at that chastening home defeat suffered by Coplestonians last week whilst Coplestonians will look to secure a statement win having seen Ransomes vulnerability against Trimley Red Devils.
Either side can cause the other all manner of problems, but it appears almost impossible to predict because you can never be sure which of the teams will turn up on the night.
Previous results have shown the tightness of the margin between the two, so what do we expect? Can either side bounce back? One thing is for sure, both teams will be active so don't expect a goalless draw.
