Ransomes Sports entertain Bildeston Rangers in their final SIL Senior Division home league game of the season on Friday evening (28th April) at Sidegate Avenue KO 6.15 pm.
Bildeston's opening day Senior Division defeat of the seaon came against Ransomes in the reverse fixture back in August and they should be suitabley keen to atone that loss, particularly after last weekends result when they so nearly took all three points off title hopefuls Halesworth Town. Eventually, they were left to draw comfort frpm a 2-2 draw.
Ransomes have been looking a bit light in all departments this past month. Following a host of injuries, they have been forced into giving debuts to two promising, but inexperienced 16 year olds, and whilst their is a sense that Ransomes have muddled through this period, credit the management team for putting out a generally competitive side on the pitch. Even if they haven't matched their earlier fluency, they have shown the kind of resilience that has been apparent throughout the majority of their performances this season.
They will need to at least have a go tonight at rivalling Bildeston's punchiness and no-nonsense approach because if they don't, their opponents could expose a soft underbelly and cause problems. This could therefore be the perfect time for Bildeston to play Ransomes and there is plenty of potential for angst.
The visitors however, are not renowned travellers this time around - only two wins scattered across their 11 away league fixtures played so far this season.
If Bildeston are beaten at Sidegate Avenue, it will give Ransomes a league double, and will mean that they have coaxed 37 points out of a possible 42 available on home soil. That would be a tremendous fillip before their final two fixtures of the current campaign, away at Claydon and finally, Henley Athletic.
Despite the gap in the Senior Division league standings between the two sides, Bildeston will make it hard for Ransomes, but on the night, it will be mostly about what the players do and not about the clash of two different styles of playing. The outcome of this game is in either teams hands - who wants it?
