Great show from Under 12s at local derby

The game opened with some fierce contests at the breakdown - with really good ball protection and counter-rucking. Our lads have really upped their game in this area.

The tackling was strong from both sides - with some heavy hits, and we certainly didn't come off 2nd best in this area. (We could go a little lower in the tackle lads, so this is something we can take back to the training ground). Our defensive alignment was really good - and allowed us to defend well and keep Ashbourne at bay.

We made some super brave line breaks up the middle, and mixed this up with some occasional wide breaks, both tactics yielded good scores. Our attacking alignment & support runs are improving - and the next step for us is to start using this and getting the ball moving through the hands, or passed out quickly from the base of the ruck. Against the better oppositions, the best way to make an impact is by working as a team - mixing the solo runs with passing and support play, and good rucking & recycling.

Really good turnout - with 19 eager players vying for 10 spots meant a fair bit of time on the sidelines for everyone. It was great to see everyone chomping at the bit to get back on as players rotated in and out, and also to see the players communicating and encouraging each other. Pity we can't play everyone for the full 40 minutes. Everyone played their part in a super game to pip our near neighbours & rivals by the odd score, and claim the local bragging rights, both teams having played really well.

Well done Ben, Adam, Cian, Harry, Ross, Sean, Ryan, Cian, Max, Gavin, Alex, Matthew, Conor, Laurie, Brian, Michael, James, Tom, & Emmet. We're on a good run now - let's keep it going !
