After the half term break Rawcliffe Ravens were eager to return to the court and played on Tuesday against a young Haxby side.

There were a couple of changes to the Ravens line up which finally saw Faye Whiteley take to the court at GS along with Georgia Cooper from Renegades who stepped into Katie Aconley’s trainers and picked up the WA bib. Vicky Bailey completed the guest line up and started at GK with Hannah Skilbeck moving out to WD as she fancied a run around!

Having had a slow start in the first match against Haxby, Ravens were eager to not repeat this and came out fast. Some great feeds from Katie at C saw Ravens get a slight advantage however Haxby had a massively tall GS to counteract the Ravens shooting circle. They however did not count on Vicky Bailey and Charlotte Chambers in the circle. Haxby were able to get some sneaky feeds into their GS despite Vicky and Charlotte's best efforts. They were mere fingertips away from interceptions…..it was only going to be a matter of time! The first quarter ended 11-5 to Ravens.

Ravens came out fast again and woke up (although they were hardly asleep) in the second half. Katie and Georgia were working well in attack with Katie working hard to shake off the close attention she was receiving from her C! Georgia was working brilliantly at feeding the shooting circle which really came alive in this quarter. Faye Whiteley was absolutely brimming with confidence and started slotting in shots from here there and everywhere. Becky was shooting at her usual high standard but it was the defence that really worked hard this quarter.

Vicky and Charlotte were stifling and I mean STIFLING in the circle! They limited the Haxby shooters to only 2 goals this quarter and worked out the plays to the shooter quickly. Some sublime intercepts from Vicky when she was outnumbered in the circle were perfection to watch. Hannah Skilbeck was an absolute revelation at WD. She was amazing and I lost count of the number of intercepts and tips that she managed...quite a few. The pre-game pancakes clearly helped. Ravens went into half time leading 23-7.

The defence continued to stop the flow of the feeds into the Haxby shooters and Faye worked well in the circle as she had the tall GS who had switched to GK to contend with. Now Faye, don't get me wrong, isn't very tall and she didn't quite reach the GK’s shoulders but was she bovvered? Absolutely not and just continued popping up shots.

Ravens continued working well in all areas of the court and eventually took the win. The final score was 45-13. A similar score to the last game but didn't feel as hard.

Well done everyone for excellent match play and a massive thanks to Faye Whiteley, Georgia Cooper and Vicky Bailey for helping out.

Player of the Match was Faye Whiteley - well deserved!
