CCL Premier Division - League match
Raynes Park Vale 1 - AFC Hayes 1
3pm Sat 29th Sept 2018
Weather. Glorious Indian summer sunshine.
This is a game where we had plenty of possession and should've won. Of that there will be no dispute.
1-0. Right Side, open play.
We started very well and on 6 minutes went ahead when Seanan Mckillop 10 scored with a right foot 12 yard shot when one on one with their ‘keeper. Good assist pass from 7 Jordan Holmes playing right wing.
After we scored we were very, very average until the 70th minute triple substitutions. We had them on the ropes being 1 up early doors and should’ve gone in at HT at least 2 up with the game virtually done. Instead it looked like we stepped off the gas. When we should’ve been turning the screw and wrapping up the 3 points we had very little impact. In attack and midfield in the last 30 minutes of the first half we were sloppy and poor to be honest. And we lacked pace.
1-1 Penalty to Hayes
AFC Hayes gradually got into the game after we scored but didn’t put makeshift Vale goalkeeper Conor Turner under much pressure at all but on 59 minutes Hayes won a penalty when Archie Harland-Goddard at right back bought down a Hayes attacker. Ref gave the pen which was hit low to the right. Conor Turner in goal dived the right way, got a hand to it but the ball went in for the equaliser.
Thought Conor looked very comfortable in goal for an outfield player, punched, caught and handled well, had a good goal kick on him and rolled the ball out well.
70 minutes, the triple substitution
We looked a lot, lot better when Josh Dan Ano came on on 70 minutes and made a big impact with his pace. He was beating defenders for fun.
At the same time Ato Okai, consistantly our best player this season along with Marcus Dowdeswell, switched from Left Back where he hardly touched the ball and was wasted, to left wing where his running and control caused huge problems.
Also on 70 minutes Jack Williamson came on as Right Wing back & Tom Harland-Goddard came on.
We looked like a different team after the changes. The energy was back. The team were lifted. We had wave after wave of attacks, corners and free kicks but just couldn’t score.
On 90 minutes Eoin Fraser shot past the Hayes ‘keeper across the goal line wide from the right, inside the 6 yard box. The ball just shaved the outside of the post. So close. A lot of excitement for the fans in the last 20 minutes but really it
was 2 vital points dropped.
One week we are going to get our arses in to gear, get things right and play to our proper potential. I look forward to our next league game at home on Saturday 6th October versus 4th placed Abbey Rangers.
In the meantime, on Tuesday 2nd October 7:45pm we play a strong Frimley Green side in the Southern Combination Cup at home.
