Dear Members,
Firstly a thank you to all the new members who have joined this month. Hopefully you will be on the winners list soon.
It was good to see so many of you at the Past Players Lunch on April 8th. Our thanks to Ron Tabb for organising the lunch. As always a good buffet laid on by Gina and her team.
We did the third Monthly draw from the new committee, drawn by former Captain John McLaren and the winners were:
£100 – Number 13 – John Fuller
£50 – Number 28 – Bill Fursman
£25 – Number 116 – Wendy Turk, you may know her as Wendy Newsom.
Congratulations to them and If John Fuller sends me his address I will post his winnings to him.
I still need an address from Dave Skuse so that I can post his February winnings to him.
Unfortunately the festivities were not matched by the 1st XV’s performance on the pitch and we lost heavily. As most of you will know the 1st XV are to be relegated from their league this season.
It will be vital that we continue to support the club next season and try to help the team stop the downward spiral that often happens with relegated sides. We need to be promoted back immediately next year and your support on the touchline or on the pitch will be vital.
Remember that 50% of the money raised from the 200 Club goes back into the Club for their projects and it may be that our money is spent on equipment that the 1st XV needs, although there has been a request from the club to contribute towards having the Honour’s Boards updated. This will be discussed at the 200 Club Committee meeting on April 18th.
A new Coach is in the process of being appointed, hopefully before the AGM on April 27th, another date for your diary, and we shall see if he has a wish-list that the 200 Club can help with. I think that the structure must be in place so that the Coach and Players can concentrate on matters on the pitch and we must help to provide that structure.
The April draw will be held at the Mini/Junior End of Season celebration day on April 30th and there will be some bigger prizes. These amounts will be decided upon at the 200 Club committee meeting on April 18th.
After the Mini/Junior Celebrations there is the Annual Memorial Match to honour Club members who are no longer with us. This promises to be a good day so why not come along and contribute to the day. It is rumoured that our Club President Ian Cameron-Webb has dusted off his boots!!
I can highly recommend Walking Rugby to those of you who are local to the Club. It takes place on Tuesday mornings, Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. There will be a demonstration match on Saturday May 13th before the County match scheduled for that day. Turn up and see whether it a game you would like to take up. Members range in age from current playing Rhinos to 75 year old retired players.
The new Committee Team have built up the membership from 55 to 138 and we are still looking for new members to boost the Club funds for next season so please think of taking out a second membership or tell other Club members to join. As the close season approaches please contact me at the e-mail address below for membership forms or any information about the 200 Club.
