Our President Yasmin Miller...

A somewhat belated Happy New Year to you all!

It does feel a little odd saying that now, partly because even a few weeks in, New Year's Eve seems a long time ago. But also because the new lockdown is certainly not making many people very happy at all. The changes do mean that all rugby activity at the club has been stopped once again and the clubhouse remains shut. I know that this is a big blow to many players and families who welcomed the brief period of rugby training before Christmas, but as always, it's important that we stick to the rules and closing the club is part of that.

Players can continue to train and keep fit themselves of course, and can meet up with one other person for fitness training too, but socially distancing still needs to be observed, no shared kit or balls can be used, and such meetings do need to be in public outdoor spaces. The rugby club isn't counted as public, so please don't come up to use the pitches for your own personal training.

However, although the club and facilities themselves are closed, it doesn't mean that all rugby activity has stopped. You may have seen the launch this week of the Reading RFC Virtual Skills School. This will be a regular series of short coaching videos released every few days to keep up interest and enthusiasm for our players, and to maintain and improve skills whilst ordinary training is on hold. I know many individual teams and age groups are doing their own online training and social sessions too, and that social connection remains vital for everybody's sanity.

So please keep an eye on our website, Facebook pages and other social media to see the new videos as they are released and to catch up with all other Reading RFC news.

And whatever challenges you are facing through this lockdown, be it self-isolating, home-schooling, furlough or any one of a number of other difficulties, please do keep safe and well. And remember that your rugby club is still here for you, so please feel free to reach out to me or any of the Exec Committee if there is any way we can support you.
