With the 1st XV away, it gave the lads the opportunity to strut their stuff on the no.1 pitch in the sun and in front of a good sized crowd for a 3rds game. The lads started brightly and got the 1st score of the afternoon from lock Lewis Donnelly, a poor clearance kick from Wallingford's no.10 was slapped down from his partner in the engine room Dan Dawson and from outside the opponents 22, Lewis gathered the ball found a hole in the defence and went over the whitewash. Fly half Iain Lindsay narrowly missed the conversion attempt, hitting the post. Instead of kicking on from their good start the guys became sloppy in possession and gave away a lot of silly penalties, we did manage to add to the score line though. Lindsay kicking a penalty to give us a 8-0 lead, Wallingford came back at us strongly and managed to gain momentum from the penalties we continued too concede. Eventually the pressure told and they got their score, it wasn't converted though. The Vikings had the last say of the half as loose head prop Gavin Egan after being denied his first try for the club after the ref was unsighted due to a pile of bodies with Egan adamant he had grounded the ball after some good pick and go play from the forwards got his much deserved try after pouncing on a loose ball 5 metres out after a good break from skipper and scrum half Chris Sumner. Lindsay added the extra points to give us a 15-5 lead at halftime.
The guys began the 2nd half much better and managed to put together some good phases, after some pressure on them. Wallingford conceded a penalty which Lindsay converted. Next was a contender for try of the season from replacement winger Kheson Howard (who had replaced James Wontner-Smith after he had got a nasty cut above his left eye. Thankfully he is all ok and went to hospital and got 4 stitches for his trouble!) taking a pass from fullback George Daniel outside our 22, Howard went on a mazy run beating 4-5 defenders before going over between the posts. Lindsay missed the conversion. 10 minutes later, the special moment arrived. Dan Edwards had made his comeback in a Viking jersey after nearly 2 years out with a serious knee injury, coming on in the outside centre position. After a lovely break from his inside centre partner Dan Starkey, he was on his shoulder and with Starkey fixing the fullback passed it to Edwards. He had a free run to the line and finished it with style with a semi Ash Splash under the posts!! Lindsay added the extra points and that was to be the final points of the game.
