26 unanswered points put league leaders to the sword..

A performance of the season so far, sent league leaders and previously unbeaten High Wycombe II back to Kingsmead Road empty handed. With a dominant pack setting the platform from the off, the guys look calm and in control from the kick off. An attacking lineout was won and then driven over the line for hooker Ollie O'Toole to open the scoring, in windy conditions fly-half Dan Queen was unable to add the extra points. The following 10 minutes were all High Wycombe, scoring back to back tries and converting them both. They showed some slick handling in the backs to score the 2nd try from a kick-off. More pressure came from the Vikings led by big carries from locks Chris Champ and Alex Jones and more pressure close to the oppositions line drew a penalty and a yellow card to High Wycombe. A scrum was chosen and again the pack drove them backwards for no.8 and skipper Lewis Donnelly just to dot the ball down over the line. Again Queen was unable to add the conversion, giving High Wycombe a slender 10-14 lead at half-time.

The guys put what was spoken about at HT into action at the beginning of the 2nd half and after more dominance in the scrum, we were awarded a penalty try to regain the lead. The screw was now being turned and again with an attacking scrum on the opponents 5 metre line the pack turned on the power once again for Donnelly to collect his 2nd try of the game, the extras were added this time by fullback Blair Fraser. With the bonus point secured and with a comfortable cushion the game opened up and this would end up benefitting right winger Alex Lapthorne as he collected 2 tries. The highlight coming from his 1st with Donnelly crashing through the defence and then throwing a perfect long pass to Lapthorne. Fraser was only able to convert 1 of the scores and even a late yellow card for Seb Assefuah didn't cost the lads, running out 36-14 winners!
