Rebels brand footy is an amazing thing to watch, it emphasizes the hard work and dedication that Coach Kon Karavias, as well as every other player, has put into the track and gym since the beginning of the year, this is when it happens. The Rebels came out firing on all cylinders against the Cats with two quick goals in the first ten minutes. This would set a strong tone in most games, but not this one. Hamilton was not ready to just roll over and hand the boys in black a victory. They were quick to answer, and in turn evened the score before the end of the quarter. In the second, with little coming out the middle and the defence being left out to dry, the Rebels were looking to each other for a turn around instead of looking for the ball. The first half would end 8 points down looking at an up hill battle.
The 2nd half started well; Not ready to give up Div 1 captain Daimin Bodnar put it on his back to bring the game back to Rebels standard by pulling his team in for a fire up during half time. It showed in the third from the first tap. The ball came out of the midfield to a well set up forward structure, allowing first year Rebel Robby T, running hard on the ball, to set up for two well placed goals. With the structures on, the third quarter showed a lot of positives with the Rebels winning the ball across the ground.
The last quarter was a strong finish for the Rebels. Smart ball movement in packs through the midfield kept the play pushing the footy to the hard running forwards; It would be the nail in the coffin for the now quiet Wildcats. The goals would keep pouring in with Prendergast kicking seven and the legend himself Nik Papaioannou bagging two. Despite the slow beginning the boys showed what can be done when the team is playing well.
