Rebels kick off their season against the Hawks at UOT

On a hot and humid start to the season the boys rolled up to UoT anxious to get started with their 2016 campaign.
First quarter got off to a quick start, with a nice clearance out of the midfield and goal to Veteran Fabsy who had snuck out the back.
Rebels were on top early, quick goals to Digga and Kid had the boys up and about.
Some good work was however undone with some ill disciplined play, granted it started from defending a fellow player but the Hawks were down by 4 goals and successfully got under our skin and got back into the contest.
Hodor did manage to redesign a few of the Hawks jerseys in the process of being dragged off the field.

First quarter 4.2.26 to 3.2,20

After a spray from Bodz due to the lack of discipline the boys responded brilliantly, minds back on the job and dedicated to our structures. A big quarter from our midfield had us with 8 scoring shots to 1.
The boys went back to our structures and moved the ball well, a nice goal from Kid and a cameo from Bridge had the scoreboard ticking over.

Rebels outscoring Hawks 4.4 to 1 goal and taking a lead into half time 8.6.54 to 4.2.26

Third quarter as expected the Hawks came out very strong, they're a very good side with some quality Australians that have been there and done that in this league so we knew they weren't going to just roll over.
To their and our credit, the third quarter was a slug fest with both teams having 4 scoring shots, hawks getting the upper hand in the quarter kicking 3.1 to Rebels 2.2
Highlight of the quarter was the "Sweet Potato wearing a condom" call from Hodor that had both sides in stitches. #thingshodorsays will be a common and anticipated column in each weeks write up.

End of the third had the hawks with a sniff 10.8.68 to 7.3.45

Which Rebel team was coming out in the 4th, Coach Bodz asked for the team that showed up for the first 15 mins of the first quarter and that's exactly what he got. A controlled quarter with a lot of hard fought contests got the job done.
Rebels midfield moved the ball well and when they didn't they constantly put pressure on their opponent forcing turn overs. Rebels forward line pressure, slowed the game down and took away any easy outs for the Hawks trapping the ball in our attacking zone. Creating opportunities and a nice grab and goal from big K Duff.
An ironic chirp from one of the Hawks about our 2km time trials in the preseason was well received, as we completely ran over them in the 4th, the boys fitness, intent and discipline shone through and if it wasn't for some wayward kicking, the margin would have been wider.

Rebels running out the quarter 3 goals 2 to 1 goal and finishing the match with a 6 goal victory 13.10.88 to 8.3.51

Goal Kickers: 2. Bridge, Digga, Fabs, Kid, Duffy. 1. Joshy, Browny, Wizza
Best Aussie (per old boys) Digga
Best Canuck: Kid
