Rebels come away with a strong win vs. last years Premiers.

Round 3 Rebels vs. Roos:

The Rebs took to the field this week for a much-anticipated Friday night match up against the reigning champion and undefeated Etobicoke squad. After a hard week on the track it was going to be imperative to get off to a quick start.

The first quarter was tight battle but the Rebels were able to put on some early pressure through the likes of second gamer Stevo and Tommy, which translated into scoring chances. Browny or B1 was marking everything and he was rewarded with a couple early goals. The Roos were not going to lie down and hit back with a couple of their own and the Rebels let them off the hook a bit with some inaccurate kicking.

Q1 Score: Rebels 3.5.23 to Roos 3.0.18

The second quarter was much the same as the first with the Rebels getting on top early through some stellar ruck work from Hodor providing Ash and Digga first look at the footy against a strong Roos midfield. The backline led by Philthy and Scuba was holding strong and the Rebels managed to extend their lead at the half just slightly to 10 points.

Q2 Score: Rebels 6.7.43 to Roos 5.3.33

At the break, coach Bodnar asked his players to increase their attack on the footy and believe in their structures. The boys took this onboard and came out more determined than ever. The Kid and B1 were a force across half forward and they were well supported by the inform Wizza. The back line really tightened up in the 3rd as well with Digga back on the last line helping the defence out with some strong grabs and clearing kicks to advantage. An entertaining quarter of football saw the Rebels kick away to a handy 4-goal advantage.

Q3 Score: Rebels 9.7.61 to Roos 5.7.37

The Rebels knew the last was going to be battle as last years premiers were not going to lie down without a fight. It was a stoppage contest and the Roos saw a lot of footy in their forward zone early. The defence held strong again with Dre and Trev working hard and the Rebels managed to kick the only goal for the last quarter to run out winners by 30 points. This was a great win for the club but the most pleasing part was that the Roos were held goal less after half time and we managed to out score them in every quarter.

Final Score: REBELS 10.10.70 defeat the Roos 5.10.40

Goals: Browny 3, Fabs 3, Kid, Wizza, Ash, and Digga 1 each.
Best Players as voted by the Old Boys: Stevo, Browny, Philthy
