Round 6 was an important game for both teams with a win guaranteeing a finals spot. The Rebels had a strong lineup ready to go with a full 24. As has been the case in many games this year, our opponents were short a few, so a big thank you to the 8 guys who wore the oppo jumper for half a game.
The Rebels again ran with an all Canadian midfield and the boys led by new Ruckman Cowboy were on early. The likes of Udai, Jedi, Giant, Gunna were driving the ball forward at will and this turned into a couple of quick goals. The Dingos an experienced squad did push back and got on the board as well but the Rebels took a handy lead into the break.
Q1 Score: Rebels 5.2.32 to Dingos 1.2.8
The second quarter started with the Dingos getting on the board first and closing the gap to just 3 goals. Our back six were holding strong, as they have had all year but it was a Rookie Satty that was in everything. This strong defence turned into offence, through the likes of Snickers and Neon and although inaccurate the boys extended the margin to 40 points at the main break.
Q2 Score: Rebels 8.7.55 to Dingos 2.3.15
After the long break and some tweaks to the game plan the Rebels really got on top in the 3rd. Gunna and Cowboy were in everything and Woz and Mahi were pivotal across half back. The boys piled on 5 goals to zero for the term, all but sealing the victory.
Q3 Score: Rebels 13.9.87 to Dingos 2.3.15
With the game beyond doubt the Rebels shortened the bench and gave our Rookies plenty of game time. Stokes, Gator, Jacko and Kezza were playing some great footy for the Dingos, making it hard for our boys to score and helping to set up a couple goals for the oppo. The boys still won the quarter and with that qualified for the finals. A great achievement and fantastic way to go into the nights pub crawl.
Final Score: Rebels 16.15.111 to Dingos 4.4.28
Goals: Fabs 5, Snickers 3, kid 3, Jello 2, Neon 2, Udai1.
