After a stirring and emotional win in Rd 8 locked up 2nd spot for the Rebels, the boys had to hit the road and travel to Hamilton for a matchup with the Wildcats. A win giving the victor a direct route to the GF on September 17th and a loss triggering the second chance and a Pre-Lim Final berth on September 10th.
The Rebels were greeted with a hard and dry surface and a Hamilton team ready for the first bounce. The Cats brought the heat early and this saw them kick the first 2 goals. The Rebels however countered with great snaps from Jello and Kid. The Rebels defence welcomed back Scuba, Rhonan and Woz this week and they were kept busy throughout.
Q1 Score: Rebels 2.1.13 to Wildcats 3.1.19
Again Hamilton started strongly and got on the board first, but our Fearless Captain stepped up with two beauty goals which saw the boys outscore the Cats for the quarter by a couple of points. Snickers was in everything and Mahi was patrolling the backline repelling many inside 50s.
Q2 Score: Rebels 4.4.28 to Wildcats 5.2.32
The third quarter is where things got away from the Rebels. Hamilton took advantage of the smaller field, winning the clearances and getting 2 early goals. The Rebels were battling hard but just couldn't get enough footy forward which saw the Cats kick away to a 5 goal lead. It was a disappointing quarter but the young Rebels team will learn a lot from it.
Q3 Score: Rebels 4.5.29 to Wildcats 9.4.58
The Rebels swung some changes in the last quarter to try and generate some scores, but the Cats were just the better side on this day. The boys fought out the game until the siren but ultimately ended up 40 points down. Good news is, with the second chance the Rebels now get an opportunity to make the GF on September 10th in Toronto at Humber South in a re-match vs the Swans.
Congratulations to Hamilton on making the Grand Final two seasons in a row
Q4 Score: Rebels 4.5.29 to Wildcats 11.5.71
Goals: Kid 3, Jello 1.
