Rebels go down to old rivals

Round 7 of OAFL action had the Rebels pitted against the Eagles. Both teams were coming off disappointing losses a week earlier, so getting the points in this one was even more important.

The first quarter started evenly with the Rebels getting the ball in their forward 50 on a number of occasions. Drago Cam and Fabs were working well in the middle but the Eagles defence was standing tall only allowing one point on several entries. At the other end the Eagles seemed to be more cohesive and they found a couple of goal kickers that saw them up by that margin at the first break.
In the second the big Frenchman stepped up across half back repelling many forward attacks, the on ball brigade was also getting plenty of it but once again the Eagles defence was too strong for the in-experienced Rebel forwards. The Eagles once again managed the only goals for the quarter and took a handy 5 goal lead into the half time break.

A couple of moves were made at half time with the big Frenchmen going forward and first gamer Tomas moved into the middle. Tomas made an immediate impact with his attack on the ball and leg speed and if not for some poor finishing the Rebels would have been right in the game. Instead the Eagles took their chances and extended their lead going into the final term.

With the game all but won, the Rebels could have easily laid down in this one but they continued to build on the previous quarters efforts and they were rewarded by outscoring the Eagles in the last frame. Alex Irwin did a great job down back all day and young Paul stood up in the last quarter with some important possessions. But alas it was all too late. Both teams were without key players so look for a much closer result come round 12 when we play the Eagles again.

Final Score: Rebels 3.8.26 lost to Eagles 13.10.88
Goals: Brendan Craghill 1, Paul Marsciovetere 1, James Theis 1.
Best: Cam Stark, James Theis, Michael Fabbri, Alex Irwin, Jeff Brand.
