Dingos too strong for the Rebels

The Rebels entered Rd 2 with confidence after a solid win in Rd 1 but they knew they faced a tough challenge against an old foe the Dingos. The Rebels again showed they have recruited well showing up with a squad of 23 which did not include 5 regulars from the week previous. Prior to the game the Rebels agreed to play 16 a side as the Dingos had several late cancellations.

With Tony Tam as acting captain for the day in his 100th game, he won the toss and selected to kick down field for the 1st quarter. With both Sean Duffy and Chris Behie missing coach Monty called on Matt Dunnigan for the Rucking duties and he did not disappoint winning a majority of the taps in the first quarter and throughout the game. Unfortunately the Rebels failed to capitalize on his dominance and soon found themselves down 3 goals.

The second quarter came and the Rebels started well, the endeavor at the football could not be faulted, unfortunately some untimely skill errors translated into turnovers and the Dingos were able to make the Rebels pay on the scoreboard.

Going into the third the Rebels were down by 6 goals, but with some key moves the boys played their best quarter of the game and managed to out score the Dingos on the scoreboard. Pete Bormann was giving plenty up front, Tony Tam, and Kieran Hess were playing well through the middle and Ron Brennan was once again playing a solid game at centre half back. The highlight of the quarter had to be the mark and goal completed by Marc Roche, his first in his short career.

With a great quarter behind them the Rebels started the last with hopes of further cutting into the lead. This was not to be as once again skill errors costing the Rebels dearly. The Dingos piled on the goals and eventually ran out convincing 70 point winners but the margin was not a reflection on the over all play from The Rebels. With some fine tuning at training and continued commitment to the footy the two clubs next meeting is sure to be much closer.

Unfortunately the Rebels could not give Tony Tam a win for his 100th game but he was carried off the field in recognition of this fantastic achievement. Well done Tony, we look forward to many more great games from you.
