Match report as REMYCA lose 5-3 to Avro

Despite losing 3-0 at half-time. Litherland REMYCA put in a spirited second half performance in their 5-3 loss at Avro.

Two second half goals from Jay Hammill and one from captain Ash Clements gave REMYCA a route back into the match at 4-3 but Avro sealed the win in stoppage time.

A torrid first half from REMYCA saw Avro midfielder Callum Nicholas bag a hat trick in wet and windy conditions.

Nicholas’s first was from a corner in the 9th minute. His whipped corner went straight into the goal as REMY keeper James McClenaghan could not keep the ball out.

The midfielder had his second midway through the first half. A powerful low right footed strike found the bottom left corner from the edge of the area.

Nicholas completed the hat trick five minutes later with another strike outside the area. This time high into the right of the REMY goal.

REMYCA came back out with a purpose and attacking mentality. They got their reward through captain Ashton Clements.

Left-back Michael Ordish played a low cross to the edge of the area which found Clements who calmly slotted into the bottom right corner.

Avro hit back straight from kick off with midfielder Matthew Wolfenden slotting home from the edge of the area to give Avro their three-goal lead back.

On the hour mark James Hammill won and scored a penalty for REMYCA to breathe some life into Colin McDonald’s side.

James Hammill then converted a beautiful left-footed strike into the roof of the net with 16 minutes to go to give REMYCA a real chance of completing an unlikely comeback.

Five minutes later and substitute Karl Clair skied a glorious chance at the back post from a Paul Speed cross.

Avro defended well and sealed the win deep into stoppage time through Oumar Camara.

REMYCA remain bottom of the NWCFL Premier with just 10 points.
